Since its founding in 2018, Aberdeen University Consulting Group (AUCG) has managed to develop its curriculum and increase its outreach on the campus, by engaging students of all disciplinary backgrounds in consulting-related activities. AUCG’s primary focus is to provide a useful and professionally-orientated learning experience by developing critical skills for a consulting or related career.
AUCG offers two main programmes to its members: a career-focused programme and an advanced study group designed for members interested in case competitions. The former runs weekly and includes workshops such as: cracking interview case studies, simulations of fit and case interviews, analyzing business frameworks and even mini case competitions. On the other hand, the latter seeks to prepare and challenge highly capable students to participate in case competitions. The seminars for this programme are focused on demystifying and structuring the cases within competitions and also guiding the students in the process of developing their team working and presentation skills. However, other necessary skills are covered in order to evolve strong all-around individuals for the case competitions.
AUCG accomplished astonishing achievements during the 2019-2020 academic year. The society prepared two groups of students for the Scottish Case Competition in Edinburgh. One of the teams obtained the runner up position, thus becoming qualified to participate at the next stage for the United Kingdom Case Competition in London, where they successfully attained the first place. Thanks to these achievements, AUCG was shortlisted for the 2020 National Societies and Volunteering Awards. This proves that the society is having a lasting effect on students wanting to pursue a career in consulting and contributes to their development as future professionals.
